Charles D. Celaya, Esq. is the founder of Celaya Legal and a respected advisor in the world of music and media. With roots as a multi-instrumentalist and record producer, Mr. Celaya has been involved in music creation, production, distribution, and monetization for over 25 years. This experience fuels his passion for guiding creative professionals through what he calls, "the wonderful and dangerous intersection of creativity and commerce."
After obtaining Bachelor's Degrees in Business, Music, and Theology, Mr. Celaya attended the prestigious Frost School of Music at The University of Miami, where he obtained a Master of Music Degree focused on Music and Entertainment Industry Studies. His research there included the impacts of interpolation on copyright ownership. He then went on to law school where he graduated cum laude and earned awards for academic excellence in Legal Research, Legal Writing, Internet and Social Media Law, New Media Rights, and Motion Picture Contract Drafting. His legal research focused on blockchain technology and the enforceability of smart contracts.
Mr. Celaya's legal practice has always focused on the representation of recording and performing artists, songwriters, music producers, composers, music publishers, independent record labels, and filmmakers. His expertise includes recording, music publishing, and copyright issues.
In addition to being admitted to the California Bar Association, Mr. Celaya is also a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and an Associate Professor of Commercial Music at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where he is a three-time recipient of the Excellence in Teaching award.
